Injectables
Colorado’s extreme climate and high altitude take their toll on our skin. If you haven’t taken full advantage of the prevention and treatment options available today, your skin may age faster than you would like. At Forefront Dermatology, formerly Asarch Dermatology, Laser, & Mohs Surgery, we offer a variety of injectables to help with all some of your aging concerns.
Types of Injectables
These injectables include:
Botox
Botox® is made from the botulinum toxin type A. Botox® was first used to treat involuntary eyelid spasms (blepharospasm), and it was approved for this use by the FDA in 1991. But when Botox® was approved for cosmetic use, it became an aesthetic industry icon.
Juvederm® (Volbella & Voluma)
As we age, our skin loses elasticity and volume, leading to unwelcome lines and wrinkles. JUVÉDERM® XC is the first and only non-surgical hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA-approved to instantly smooth moderate to severe wrinkles around your nose and mouth for up to one year with optimal treatment.
Kybella
KYBELLA™ is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin (submental fat), also called “double chin.” It is not known if KYBELLA™ is safe and effective for use outside of the submental area.
What Concerns Can Injectables Treat?
The use of injectables can help treat:
Smile lines
These lines – also known as nasolabial folds or marionette lines –form from the side of the nose to the corner of the mouth, and are the result of the loss of facial volume and skin elasticity as we age. Fillers can be used to smooth these lines and restore volume for a more youthful appearance.
Volume Loss
Loss of facial volume is a contributing factor to looking older. As we age, the epidermis becomes more permeable and more susceptible to irritation from the outside. The skin cells that make up the epidermis start to break up and lose their neat, brick-wall-like alignment. Sagging and volume loss are common concerns for patients at the Forefront Dermatology, formerly Asarch Dermatology. The sun may also be a factor. A recent study has shown that sun exposed skin produces a compound which inhibits fat cell production. Over time this leads to loss of fat which reduces facial volume contributing to a sunken, aged appearing face.
Wrinkles
Wrinkles are an inevitable part of the natural aging process. As we age our skin gets thinner, drier and less elastic. Many wrinkles are actually creases that have been worn into the skin by making the same expression thousands of times. These “expression lines”, such as frown lines or crow’s feet, are due to the contraction of a muscle under the skin in that area. We treat wrinkles in many ways at Forefront Dermatology, formerly Asarch Dermatology, depending on the severity, depth and area of the wrinkle. A consultation with one of our medical professionals can help you determine the best treatment option.
