Profound
What is Profound?
Profound is a minimally invasive, radio-frequency procedure designed to create new elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid – the building blocks that keep your skin smooth and elastic. Without surgery, Profound dramatically improves aging skin, so you can look years younger.
By carefully heating the skin’s elastin and collagen to an exact temperature and for an exact amount of time, Profound treatments effectively and dramatically create dermal volume as well as tighten and tone lax and “crepey” skin on the face, neck and arms. Profound also successfully treats cellulite on the legs.
Ideal candidates for Profound are people who are seeking to reduce the signs of aging. If you are interested in Profound, please contact our offices for a consultation.
The Forefront Dermatology, formerly Asarch Dermatology is proud to be the only Luminary Center of Excellence for Profound in Colorado.
What can Profound treat?
Profound is sometimes called a non-surgical facelift. While this is not meant to replace a surgical facelift, the combination of microneedling and radiofrequency energy delivers impressive tightening across the face and jowls. That is the primary focus of our Profound treatments at Forefront Dermatology, formerly Asarch Dermatology. But we’ve also used Profound to tighten “crepey” skin on the upper arms, the décolleté, the skin above the knees, and even on the abdomen.
Because it delivers the RF energy directly into the dermis layer of the skin, Profound creates effective new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production wherever it is used. Still, most of our Profound patients seek facial skin tightening, in lieu of a surgical facelift.
For cellulite, Profound delivers its fractional RF energy to the subcutaneous layer of tissue. By encouraging collagen and elastin production in areas with cellulite, the appearance of cellulite dramatically lessens in just a single treatment.
candidates for a Profound treatment
Ideal candidates for Profound are seeking to reduce the signs of aging, reverse skin laxity, and reduce the appearance of cellulite. On the face, good candidates want to tighten sagging and drooping skin and the formation of jowls.
What can patients expect from Profound treatment?
Ideally, skin rejuvenation treatment should result in good aesthetic outcome with minimal risk of complications. Neoelastogenesis and neocollagenesis should be clinically correlated with less skin laxity, greater elasticity and increased dermal volume. Profound was developed to improve the efficacy and predictability of nonsurgical treatments.
Patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours after treatment. Minimal to moderate erythema is to be expected with resolution within 2-12 hours. Generalized edema may occur following treatment, which resolves within 1 to 5 days. Profound treatment is associated with minimal downtime compared to surgical facelift in which patients experience scarring at surgical margins, erythema, edema, and ecchymosis, and a return to normal activities on suture removal at 7 to 10 days.
Benefits of Profound
Profound can improve the following signs of aging:
- Sagging jowls and loose skin on your face and neck
- Redefine the jawline and eliminate double chins
- Treat other areas of loose or crepey skin
What percentage of patients respond to treatment?
Studies have shown that a single Profound treatment has a 100% response rate for rhytides and 95% for laxity at 6 months after treatment*.
What is involved with a Profound treatment?
Profound is a quick, single treatment that usually takes about one hour. We provide topical numbing and local anesthetic prior to your Profound treatment to ensure you’re comfortable. The Profound handpiece is moved across the treatment areas and the microneedles penetrate the epidermis down into the dermis. We can vary the depths of the penetration from 0.5 to 3.5 mm to accommodate different areas. As the microneedles reach their depth, they emit radiofrequency energy at the same time. This creates highly effective delivery, as the RF energy doesn’t have to penetrate the epidermis. This is important because in order to not burn the epidermis, RF energy applied from outside the skin has to be delivered at lower levels than with Profound. By delivering the energy directly into the dermis, we can use higher levels of energy, and this creates much more impressive skin tightening.
Profound Vs. other skin tightening treatments
At Forefront Dermatology, formerly Asarch Dermatology we think the Profound system is superior for two reasons. First, it combines microneedling with RF energy. Second, because the RF energy is delivered through the needles directly into the dermis, there isn’t any warming or harm to the epidermis. This can be a problem with other RF procedures. It’s very difficult to heat the dermis to a temperature that is effective and still maintain safe temperatures for the skin surface.
Profound uses very small needles (200 microns wide) that can be set to various penetration depths, from 0.5 to 3.5 mm. Different levels of the dermis can be treated in different passes, and it accommodates varying skin and dermis depths in different areas. The microneedles are insulated and the RF energy is emitted from the end of each needle. This delivers the RF energy directly into the dermis without having to travel through (and damage) the epidermis. Generally, the further RF energy has to travel through tissue, the more pain is involved.
Adding microneedling to RF energy delivery has its own set of advantages. Penetration of the epidermis with Profound’s microneedles stimulate fibroblasts in the skin to produce collagen (wound response). Plus, topical therapeutics can be applied to the skin after the procedure and can be delivered more deeply through the microscopic holes than they can when applied to the surface normally.
results Of Profound Cellulite Treatments
Profound delivers its results in a single treatment. In clinical trials, these treatments have shown a 100% response rate with wrinkles and a 95% response rate for skin laxity. For cellulite treatment, studies have shown a 94% improvement in cellulite appearance. These results build over time as the body creates new collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. Some of Forefront Dermatology, formerly Asarch Dermatology Profound patients say they begin to see changes in two weeks after the procedure, but their maximum results continue to develop between three and nine months after these treatments.
Profound Recovery
Most patients need to take a day to lay low after these treatments. You’ll have some slight swelling and redness across the treatment sites. You may have some slight bruising, as well. This can last for a couple of days after your treatment. There really isn’t any true “recovery,” however, because these treatments are non-invasive.
Are Profound Cellulite treatments safe?
These procedures involve only microneedling and the delivery of radiofrequency energy into the dermis layer of the skin. These are both procedures performed separately and don’t involve any real risk. The magic of Profound is that it combines the two treatments into one and delivers better results because of it. Bottom line, other than some slight swelling and possible bruising, these are completely safe procedure.
Is a Profound treatment painful?
We apply topical numbing and local anesthetic to the treatment areas, making these comfortable procedures. You can have some soreness across the treatment areas for a couple days afterwards, but it is manageable with over-the-counter pain medication.
side effects Of Profound
These are the same as with other areas, slight redness and swelling. That passes in a day or so.
